SEO - Search Engine Optimization

Optimize your landing page for search engines by configuring metadata, managing indexing, and implementing Schema.org structured data to improve visibility in search results and AI-driven overviews.

1. Accessing SEO Settings

To access the SEO settings of any landing page:

  1. Click on the name of the page in your dashboard.

  2. Select SEO from the slideout menu on the right.

2. Search Configuration Options

In the Search section, you can define how your page is presented to search engine crawlers:

  • Page Title: The title displayed in search engine results and the browser tab.

  • Keywords: Short phrases that summarize your page content.

  • Meta Description: A ~160-character summary of your page. This appears below the title in search results and helps users decide whether to click.

  • Favicon: The small icon visible in the browser address bar.

    • Requirement: Use square .jpg or .png images in multiples of 48px (e.g., 48x48, 96x96).

  • Canonical URL: Prevents "duplicate content" issues by telling search engines which version of a URL is the master copy.

3. Schema.org and Structured Data

In 2026, search engines and AI assistants (like Google’s AI Overviews) rely on Structured Data to understand the specific intent of your page. Adding Schema markup can result in "Rich Snippets," such as star ratings, product prices, or FAQ dropdowns directly in the search results.

Generating Schema using AI

You no longer need to write code manually. You can use our AI tool to generate valid JSON-LD markup for your page.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Click on Generate Schema

  2. Select the schema type. If you do not know which one to choose, you can pick "Auto-detect" then click "Continue".

  3. Validate the schema.
Copy the generated code, click on "Validate at schema.org", select "Code snippet" instead of "Fetch URL".

  4. After you validate the schema, make sure you go back to Instapage to Save and Update your page.

4. Managing Indexing

Editing your SEO settings does not instantly put your page on Google. You must follow these steps to ensure your page is "crawled":

  1. Enable Search: Toggle the Show in search results switch to ON. (If this is off, Instapage adds a noindex and a nofollow tag to protect your page from being found).

  2. Request Indexing: Submit your URL to Google Search Console or Bing Webmaster Tools.

  3. Timeline: It typically takes 1 to 4 weeks for search engines to evaluate and index a new page.

Why would you hide a page? You might keep a page hidden (noindex) if it is for a private A/B test, a specific PPC ad campaign, or contains a "thank you" page that should only be seen after a conversion.

5. Sitemaps and Robots.txt

  • Sitemaps: You can generate a sitemap for your entire domain within the Workspace Settings > Domains menu. To learn more about generating a sitemap, visit this guide: https://d.pr/Fkv8fl

  • Robots.txt: We do not currently have the ability to generate a robots.txt file. To prevent a specific page from being crawled, use the Hide page from search engines toggle mentioned above.
